11-4: The best of Oaxaca

As exhausted and sick of traveling as I am, I really enjoyed today.  We’re just South of Oaxaca City, a place known for it’s black pottery.  It’s not painted black, it IS black.  And it’s beautiful!  Some of it has such a high varnish that it looks metalic.  So I begged Nathan to take me there to see where it’s made.  Naturally, I took pictures.  I’ve always had a bit of a fascination with pottery, so if you are not interested you can skip these first few pictures. :)

Step 1... punch it out!

Step 2... build it up

Step 3... shape it

Step 4... make it smoothe

To varnish the pottery they use a piece of quartz!

Cloe in front of a pile of pots! Such a cool place!

After we left the pottery place, we were all STARVING and remembered seeing a Pizza Hut in town.  So that’s where we headed!

Brennah feeding her daddy. That thing behind them... I'll show you.

It's an alter. In Pizza Hut. Leftover from Dia de los muertos (Day of the dead).

After lunch we came back down to Mitla.  After getting Brennah and Gabi down for a nap (thank you, Katie, for staying with them!) Nathan, Cloe and I went to meet some old friends of the Terrell clan.  I’ve heard so many great things about the Loker family over the years… but I did not expect them to be SO great!  :)   I really loved the couple hours I got to spend with Jamie… just one conversation and I was so blessed.

Jamie Loker and myself. I'm grateful for this new friend!

It’s now 9:30 and I’m struggling to keep my eyes open as I type.  Tomorrow we’re going to try and make it all the way home.  Yikes.  We’re not exactly sure what to expect… somewhere between 8 and 10 hrs.  Ugh.  Pray that everyone is healthier tomorrow and that Brennah won’t be such a crank!  Poor baby is SO sick of the car.  I can relate!  I just keep telling myself “this time tomorrow I’ll be home.”  We’re almost there!

~After spending about a month with you up here I STILL cannot believe how big my “lil Clo” is!! Seriously, do y’all have a jail cell type thing or somewhere you’re going to be keeping these girls- or at least where you’ll be throwing all the guys that will be after them?!? ;)
    ~Sweet Breeze…always sharing…cold germs and all… <3

What a fun post! I loved the pottery! The lacy ones are so cool! You’re right about them being almost metallic!
We have had the flu here all week, and I would HATE to be on the road with 5 little Pukers. (sounds like a BAD song) ;-)

    Glad you’re almost home!!
